April was dedicated to constraints, the month of May is dedicated to the rule of three. The rule of three is simple - an awesome product should be awesome for at least three reasons.
Take a bookend - it should work aesthetically and hold up books effectively. But an awesome bookend would also serve a function like storage (say, a coin bank) or be interactive (say, a timekeeper).
A *lot* of plastic toys are one shot wonders - they do one thing, and that’s it. What if we switched that up?
Hasbro, this is for you
Hasbro has been in the news recently because, turns out, they have a long running contract with the Pinkertons. Like, these Pinkertons.
Hasbro *also* has worked with Nintendo to make Mario toys - and this idea has a fourth awesome aspect, hot hot licensing.
So this May Day, Hasbro can have this idea for *free* if they drop their Pinkerton contract. Thankfully, their toys are already union made!
Flower Power
The toy itself is simple, a play on the long standing summer sprinkler. You hook up a hose to a base, and water can spray out of 5-9 leaves or the mouth of a carnivorous plant.
But it has three settings.
One: Your classic spray-lots-of-water-everywhere
This setting will soak children, pets, gardens and lawns around the toy. The base is weighted so it can withstand significant water pressure, and function both as a sprinkler and a lets-get-soaked adventure. The whole toy rotates spraying water at different heights & distances. This is the current one and only function of most water toys.
Two: Sporadic water blaster!
This setting conserves waters, dispersing water in short random bursts from its different openings. Are you going to get caught by a blast?! Yes. Yes you probably will.
Three: Ring toss! But with water!
This setting conserves the most water - players toss rings onto the different leaves as the sprinkler rotates. If they get a ring on a leaf, that leaf doesn’t shoot water, but all the other leaves do! Try not to get wet by tossing hoops expertly onto the different leaves.
Not only are three games included, but it would be easy to make this game have a Mario Bros tie in, making it look like a Piranha Plant.
What great ideas fit the rule of three?
